Tata Motors today delivered 35 state-of-the-art Starbus electric buses, as a part of the larger order of 340 electric buses to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). The 35-seater Tata Starbus electric AC buses were flagged off by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray in the presence of dignitaries from the Maharashtra state government, BEST, and Tata Motors, at an event at Mahim, Mumbai.
The buses are procured through best under the government of India’s fame II initiative, and the delivery is a part of the first-ever Gross cost contract (GCC) through best. Tata motors might be challenging to build, install, maintain and operate the whole charging infrastructure in conjunction with the buses. The company will deliver the rest of the order in a phased manner, according to the schedule.
With this batch of 35 electric-powered buses, best's current e-bus size has extended to 270. best has focused a total fleet size of 1,800 e-buses through mid-2023.
In a tweet, Maharashtra state environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said: “starting this week, the island city might have a complete and most effective electric powered bus network and many buses within the suburban district might be electric-powered too. We at @MahaEnvCC are keen to support urban public transport to convert their fleets to fully electric along with charging infra.”
The 12-meter long, 35-seater Tata Starbus AC electric-powered buses are equipped with superior functions for the comfort of the driver and the passengers just like the ‘lift Mechanism’ that extends an automated ramp for easy ingress and egress of specifically abled passengers, together with ergonomic seats, roomy interiors, utility provisions like charging ports and huge entry and go out passages. the total-electric buses come with an intelligent transport system (ITS), telematics system, regenerative braking system, amongst different functions for efficient and smooth operations.
